It’s the half term, the UK weather is sure to leave us guessing, but here are a few handy pointers for things to do in the South Hams this week. There are plenty of activities on offer and you can mix and match indoors and out, depending on the elements.
Spend the day on a beautiful beach
Whether you want to get in the water, work on your tan, build sandcastles, kick a ball around, or let the dog run free – there are so many stunning Devon beaches to choose from. From Blackpool Sands to Thurlestone, Bantham to Bigbury. Take the family for a walk and discover the South West Coast Path. There are some super ideas for walks here.
Discover the Dartmouth Town Trail
A rollicking romp, which children will love, our Dartmouth Town Trail will fire up imaginations with stories of pirates, smugglers, explorers and kings. Follow the walk here.
Fast Rabbit Farm Gardens
With a name like Fast Rabbit, you have to visit this wonderful oasis that just a stone’s throw from Dartmouth town centre. It’s 43 acres are home to a huge variety of plants, wildlife and birds with wildflower meadows, ponds and streamside walks adding to this wonderful ttranquility of this very special place. Dartington Food Fair, May Sunday, 27th May - Monday 28th May
It’s the second day of the Dartington Food Fair (Monday 28th May) which celebrates the very best of Devon’s thriving food and drink community, with an emphasis on local, sustainable produce.

Unicorn Week Pennywell 1st May – 1st June

Unicorns will visit Pennywell for the whole week of May half term to give some extra enchantment and magic sparkle to the holidays. They can’t wait to meet you!
Pennywell favourites Elfic the Juggler, Mr. Phil and Poco Drom will also be entertaining visitors twice daily alongside all the other usual farmyard fun.

Dinosaur Birthday Half Term Celebration - Torquay's Dinosaur World 26th May – 3rd June
Bringing the world of dinosaurs to life! With full-size and scaled dinosaurs and fascinating fossils.
On Saturday 26th May it will be 8 years since Torquay’s Dinosaur World opened and we are holding a week of celebrations. So, visit Toby T-Rex and the gang for some Jurassic fun.

Pirate Thursdays, Brixham

Pirate Days are held during the Spring and Summer school holidays where cries of ‘Arrr, matey!’ will be heard under the Old Fish Market on Brixham harbour side. The Brixham Buccaneers provide piratical fun for the young and young at heart, engaging with locals and visitors alike.

The English Riviera Wheel
Torquay, Paignton & Brixham, Torbay
Torquay's big wheel is back at the Pavilion Gardens this summer. A round trip takes approximately 12 minutes and the 40 gondolas are enclosed for safety and comfort. With breathtaking 360-degree views, the top is 60 metres high – about the height of 15 double decker buses.
